Pacer/ICD Clinic

Having a cardiac pacemaker or an ICD can be a frightening experience for a patient and family. That fear can be lessened by knowing that Cardiology Associates offers a state of the art clinic for such patients. Our team are all members of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE) and have passed the demanding exam which recognizes them as expert in this field.

CARDIOLOGY ASSOCIATES utilizes a team approach to the care of patients with pacemakers and ICDs. This allows for high quality and comprehensive care. Our dedicated and computerized device follow-up affords our patients state-of-the-art medical care. CARDIOLOGY ASSOCIATES utilizes the inpatient services of The Robert M. Best Center, the home of Cardiovascular Services at United Health Services Hospitals in Johnson City, New York. The Cardiac program has become the region’s leader in quality and volume, serving Southern New York and Northern Pennsylvania. At the modern facilities of Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center of UHSH complete cardiac surgical, interventional and electrophysiology cardiac services are available.

Pacemaker Follow up

  • An office visit 1-2 weeks post implantation with the nurse specialist to assess wound
  • Transtelephonic pacemaker checks every 1-2 months
  • An office visit 2-3 months post implantation with nurse specialist and physician for device testing and optimal programming for your pacemaker
  • An office visit every 6 - 12 months with nurse specialist for routing device testing

Please call if you have any unexplained dizziness, heart racing or slow pulse.

Defibrillator Follow up

  • An office visit 1-2 weeks post implantation with the nurse specialist to assess wound
  • An office visit in 2-3 months with nurse specialist and physician to assess device programming and data collection
  • Office visit every 3 months with nurse specialist for routine device monitoring

If you have a shock and feel "ok" call the nurse specialist. If you have more than one shock or have one shock and feel chest pain, trouble breathing or dizzy - call 911 and go to the ER.

Guidelines for follow up have been determined by recommendations from Medicare, your device manufacturer and your physician.
